Such a lovely place to spend the morning! And even if you aren't lucky enough to spot the illusive Platypus, it is still a great place to wander around, then sit for a drink or bite to eat at the cafe (which has amazing food) whilst looking out over the amazing view of the lakes! Staff were also super helpful and friendly!

The Australian Platypus Park is a hidden gem of the Tablelands. It’s a must for anyone holidaying in the Tablelands to visit. It’s genuinely unique with an exceptionally relaxing atmosphere and amazingly friendly staff that make you feel at home. The setting of the open cafe beside the lake, the fantastic food and drinks and the old fashioned country service provided are all the reasons you come to the tablelands, so make sure you drop in. You won’t want to leave.

What a beautiful well maintained setting overlooking the lake. We did not look for the platypus as it was raining and we were travelling back to Townsville but we did stop for a coffee and a bite to eat. Food was well presented and inexpensive....More

A family group of six adults and two kids 12 and 8 - we just turned up shortly after 0900. Our visit was on a cool, overcast, misty, rainy morning. Quickly sorted by the lovely staff - coffee, milkshakes (to die for) and then the...More

This place was really special. It’s not often you get to see animals honestly in a non Manufactured environment. Here the platypus are free to roam and chose this place because of its perfect natural habitat. Nothing like a zoo - beautiful grounds to walk...More

Sunday morning, nice setting and the weather was good. We didn’t see any ( females probably hatch/looking after young) but the young ranger Matt was very knowledgeable and there is an information film at the cafe. We weren’t charged as they (presumably knew) the chance...More

Rarely is it easy to spot a platypus in the wild anywhere in Australia, Generally, they are found on private land and farmers keep quiet, to protect these shy animals in the wild. That was certainly the case with those that lived on our farm,...More

We never expected to be able to see a platypus in the wild and would have considered ourselves lucky if we had. Then we found this place and the ranger who took us on our tour was showing us these creatures within 5 minutes. One...More

We had such a lovely day. Our guide was friendly, we spied some platypus and then had a delicious lunch! Will be back to taste more items on the menu next time we visit the tablelands.

I have read with interest some of the reviews and agree that the ranger only stayed with us for around 15 minutes after we arrived at the lake site. Well that was exactly what he had explained would happen. As we went down to the...More

Really nice place which allows you to sleep in the same park (with our campervan) as the platypuses. There are ~8 spots on a large area, so not crowded at all. They have a great passion for this unique creature. (The food at the Smokehouse...More

What a great place for everyone wanting to see the shy platypus. We had a fun couple of hours watching the platypus at this very pleasant location. A beautiful dam for the platypus and we saw 4 or 5 different animals - some up very close- 3-4 meters. A special mention to our young guide Matthew who give us a very informative introduction to these fascinating animals and tips for how to spot them. There is a good cafe there serving good hot & cold food. Can recommend both the coffee and cakes.

You need to buy a ticket to go view the platypus lair, however you only pay if you actually see anything. They were also kind enough to tell us beforehand if it was a good viewing day or not (at the time it wasn't), so we didn't have to waste time.
